Starting from humble beginnings, he has progressed through various levels of competition and now stands on the brink of a promising career in professional football.
Early Career Development
Baranov’s football journey began at a young age when he joined FC Kontu in Kontula, East Helsinki, at just eight years old. Before immersing himself in football, he dabbled in tennis, showcasing his athletic versatility. However, it was football that captured his heart, leading him to pursue the sport with passion and commitment.
In 2017, Baranov took a significant step forward in his football career by joining the youth academy of HJK Helsinki, one of Finland’s most prestigious clubs. His time at HJK allowed him to develop his skills and understand the game at a deeper level. After five years of hard work and dedication within the academy system, Baranov signed his first professional contract with HJK Helsinki on March 4, 2022. This milestone marked the beginning of his transition from youth football to the senior ranks.
Club Career: From Debut to Recognition
Baranov made his senior debut with HJK Helsinki on February 22, 2023, during a Finnish League Cup match against Inter Turku. Although the match resulted in a loss for HJK, it was an important moment for Baranov as he stepped onto the pitch as a professional player for the first time. In the 2023 season, he continued to build his experience by playing for HJK’s reserve team, Klubi 04, which competes in Kakkonen, the third tier of Finnish football.
During his time with Klubi 04, Baranov showcased his scoring ability by netting eight goals in 23 matches. His impressive performances did not go unnoticed; on September 30, 2023, HJK exercised their option to extend his contract until the end of the 2024 season. This extension reflected the club’s confidence in Baranov’s potential and future contributions.
In addition to his time with Klubi 04, Baranov played a vital role in HJK’s youth squad during the 2023–24 UEFA Youth League campaign. He participated in all four matches against teams such as Malmö FF and Nantes, gaining invaluable international experience.
The pinnacle of Baranov’s early club career came on June 12, 2024, when he debuted in Veikkausliiga with HJK’s first team. In a remarkable start to his league career, he scored a goal during his first match in a commanding 4–0 victory against Gnistan. This achievement solidified his place within the club and further validated the faith placed in him by coaches and teammates alike.
Loan Move and Continued Development
Recognizing the need for regular playing time to aid his development as a young player, HJK loaned Baranov to Meistriliiga club Tallinna Kalev on August 7, 2024. This loan move provided him with an opportunity to gain more experience at a competitive level while continuing to hone his skills as a winger. Such strategic loans are common practice for clubs aiming to develop young talent while ensuring they receive adequate playing time.
Baranov’s performance during this loan spell will be closely monitored by HJK as they look to assess his growth and readiness for future responsibilities within their senior squad. His adaptability and willingness to take on challenges have made him a player to watch as he navigates this crucial phase of his career.
International Career: Representing Finland
On the international stage, Baranov has already made significant strides despite being eligible to represent both Finland and Russia. He was part of the Finland U18 national team that competed successfully in the Baltic Cup in June 2023. This tournament victory not only highlighted Baranov’s potential but also showcased Finland’s growing strength in youth football.
As he continues to develop at both club and international levels, there are high expectations for Baranov’s future contributions to Finnish football. His eligibility to play for two national teams adds an interesting dynamic to his career trajectory as he weighs decisions about international representation moving forward.
